| Bryce Alger Memorial Service
and Alger Family Reunion

| We
gathered together on Saturday morning to remember a man who had
been dear to all of us. Bryce Alger was a special person - a man
of true kindness and with an enthusiast zest for life. Over the
past three years he had suffered greatly and although his death
in February brought sadness it also brought for Bryce an end to
his pain. Therefore, although we grieve his loss, we came
together as a family to celebrate his life in a joyful manner on
this fine day in May. After listening to moving tributes to
Bryce we shared a meal and then set out on a day that was truly
a "trip down memory lane". We started with a visit to the old
Alger homestead, of which all of us carry fond memories of
sunny summer afternoons, where the current owner
generously allowed us to wander and photograph and
reminisce. After that we went back another generation and
visited the home where Grandmother Alger was born, as well as
seeing the place where our great grandparents, Elwood & Edna
Hodgson, were married. We even visited a
barn constructed in the late 1800's by our great, great
grandfather. Our last stop of the day was the farmstead where
our tour guide, Great Uncle Harold Hodgson, was born. We got a
small dose of the modern world with a glimpse of Cadillac's
towering wind turbines, enjoyed a delicious meal on the lake,
and finished the day at Bryce & Marge's home on Lake Mitchell
viewing the sunset and catching up on old times. It was a long
and rewarding day - a satisfying mix of warm memories and the
comfortable companionship that comes with the bond of family. We
are thankful to Bryce for this final gift of bringing us
together again as a family. |
